Plans and Usage
Understanding Shadowfax's open beta, usage limits, and future pricing.
Open Beta Status
Shadowfax is currently in open beta. This means:
No charges: The platform is completely free to use during the beta period
Full feature access: All features are available to beta users
Reasonable limits: Usage limits are in place, but 99% of users will never hit them
No credit card required: Sign up and start analyzing immediately
Our goal during beta: Help you explore the platform freely and provide feedback to shape the product.
Current Usage Limits
While Shadowfax is free during beta, we impose reasonable usage limits to ensure platform stability and fair access for all users.
Data Limits
Upload sizes:
- Individual file uploads: Generous limits for CSV, Excel, and Parquet files
- Total data per Workbook: Designed to handle typical analytical workloads
Database connections:
- No arbitrary row limits—query what you need
- Connection limits based on fair usage
Workbook Limits
- Create multiple Workbooks for different projects
- Unlimited Views per Workbook
- Unlimited AI Tables (subject to AI processing fair use)
- Unlimited visualizations
AI Processing
AI Tables and queries:
- Fair usage limits on AI processing (LLM calls)
- Designed to support normal analytical workflows
- Refresh AI Tables as needed without worry
99% of users will never hit these limits. We've designed them to be generous for typical analytical work. If you do approach a limit, we'll let you know and work with you.
Don't Worry About Consumption
Use Shadowfax freely during beta.
Our limits are designed to be invisible for typical usage:
- Import your real data and build real analyses
- Create as many Views as your workflow requires
- Experiment with AI Tables and visualizations
- Iterate on prompts until you get exactly what you need
- Collaborate with your team
We want you to:
- Explore the platform thoroughly
- Test it with your actual use cases
- Push the boundaries and see what's possible
- Provide feedback on what works and what doesn't
Future Pricing Model
When Shadowfax exits beta and launches commercially, pricing will be based on token credit consumption, similar to other AI agent platforms.
How Token Credits Work
What consumes tokens:
- AI agent conversations and View creation
- AI Table processing (LLM calls)
- Complex query planning and optimization
- Visualization generation
What doesn't consume tokens:
- Viewing existing Views and data
- Running SQL queries on Views (standard database operations)
- Exporting data
- Collaboration features
Pricing Structure (TBD)
We're determining pricing during the beta period based on:
- Actual usage patterns we observe
- User feedback on value and willingness to pay
- Competitive market analysis
- Cost to provide the service
Expected pricing tiers:
- Individual plans: Token credits for personal use
- Team plans: Shared token pools and collaboration features
- Enterprise plans: Custom limits, priority support, SSO, dedicated infrastructure
Transparency: We'll announce pricing well in advance of any changes, and beta users will receive advance notice and potential early adopter benefits.
Workspace Management
Even during beta, you can manage team collaboration and workspace settings.
Managing Your Workspace
Go to Workspace Settings to:
- Invite team members to collaborate
- Manage user permissions (Viewer, Editor, Admin)
- View current usage (data stored, Workbooks created)
- Configure workspace preferences
Team Collaboration
Share Workbooks:
- Click the Share button in any Workbook
- Add team members by email
- Set individual permissions
- Generate shareable links (optional)
Collaboration features:
- Real-time collaboration on Workbooks
- See who else is viewing
- Changes sync automatically
- Activity logs track all modifications
Data Size Recommendations
For optimal performance:
Small to medium datasets (< 1M rows):
- Upload CSV/Excel files directly
- Fast imports and queries
- Ideal for most analytical work
Large datasets (1M - 10M rows):
- Upload files in chunks or consider database connections (coming soon)
- Better performance for complex queries
- Coming soon: automatic refresh capabilities
Very large datasets (10M+ rows):
- Database connections coming soon (will support databases like Snowflake, BigQuery, and others)
- Once available: Shadowfax will query your database directly
- Coming soon: data stays in your infrastructure
- Coming soon: leverage your database's indexing and optimization
